Adding to the KV5J product line is a newly designed amp key multiplier for the Icom IC-9700 transceiver.

The Icom IC-9700 has gained a great reputation as a VHF/UHF transceiver. It has the limitation of only one amp key output on the back to operate external linear amplifiers. With the IC-9700 being a 144/432/1296 band radio means that if you want to add amplification this is usually done with separate amplifiers for each band. This presents the problem of how you operate more than one amp on a three band radio.

KV5j's amp key multiplier provides separate amplifier connections and automatic tracking of the transmitting band in use by simply keying the relevant keying connection into transmit.

KV5J's amp key multiplier gets its power from the 9700 and connects to the IC-9700 Data jack and ACC1 8 pin socket using the provided cables.

Using the widely available Atmega328p processor to communicate with the IC-9700 via Data port, it extracts the band data so it knows which transmit band to key when PTT is pressed.  As it monitors TX frequency continually it will handle cross band and satellite operation selecting the correct output for the transmit band.

Three separate RCA phono connections are used and a bright easy to read 16x1 LED display tells you which band is selected at all times.

Each output can switch to ground up to 50V at 500ma.

KV5J's amp key multiplier is housed in a black aluminum enclosure  4 x 4 x 2 inches and comes with a 3 foot long 8 pin DIN and 3.5mm to 2.5mm data cable to connect to the IC-9700. Nothing else to buy.

Setup is as simple as setting the baud rate to 19200bd and setting the DATA function to CI-V.

Optional 8 pin DIN splitter cable. (Not required for operation.)
